Putnam St. Fire (Bridgeport, CT) 2/8/06
BRIDGEPORT, CT - At approximately 9:30pm on February 8, the Bridgeport Fire Department responded to a fatal house fire at 200 Putnam Street located on the City’s East Side. Engine and Ladder 10 were the first companies on scene reporting a 2-story wood frame with heavy smoke and fire on the first floor. An aggressive search and interior attack was commenced, but the fire was already extending to the second floor. The fire had also started communicating to the D-side exposure, which was a vacant 2 ½ wood. Unfortunately, A 70-year-old woman who resided on the 1st floor was found in her bedroom located in the rear of the structure. According to Battalion Chief William Haug, this is where the fire was thought to have broke out. Neighbors were reported as saying that the fire was ‘well on its way’ before fire crews arrived. In all, 7 engines, 3 trucks, 1 rescue, 1 battalion, 1 deputy, and the chief of the department responded to this blaze.
