Stillman St. Fire (Bridgeport, CT) 6/30/07
BRIDGEPORT, CT – On June 30, at 4:47pm, the Bridgeport Fire Department was dispatched with a full assignment to 563 Stillman Street after multiple calls were received for an occupied house fire. Truck 10 arrived first reporting heavy fire showing from the B-side of the structure. They immediately started a search of the first floor before lines were stretched. Truck 10 member Zach Hermann made the roof by accessing a ground ladder thrown in the rear of the dwelling. After venting the cockloft, he found that fire had cut off his egress to the ground ladder. He made his way to the front of the structure where he called for Tower Ladder 5 to help him off the roof. A full second alarm was needed to put the fire under control, but not before large sections of the roof collapsed into the front yard and street. More than 30 people were left homeless from the blaze.
