Fire Prevention at Written Words (Shelton, Ct) 10/25/08
SHELTON, CT – On October 25, 2008 at 1:00pm, the Written Words Bookstore in the White Hills Shopping Center organized a special children’s reading hour. This week’s story time incorporated fire safety in appreciation of October being Fire Prevention Month. A large group of children and their parents attended the event which began with a short story read by an employee of the bookstore. The children were then educated and entertained by members of the Shelton Fire Department’s Company #1, led by Assistant Chief Paul Wilson. Topics included what to do when you hear the smoke detector, crawling under smoke, and trusting a fully outfitted firefighter in an emergency. Other highlights of the event included meeting Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog, sitting in a fire truck, and each attendee receiving their own plastic fire helmet.
