Salem St. 2nd Alarm (Bridgeport, CT) 1/17/08
BRIDGEPORT, CT – Just before midnight on January 17, the Bridgeport Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire next to 234 Salem Street in the city’s north end. Bridgeport Engine 12 was first on scene reporting heavy fire showing from the 2nd floor on the A, B, and D sides of a 2 ½ wood. The house, located at 230-232 Salem Street, was an occupied 3 family with exposures on both the A and D sides. It was reported that the fire started on the second floor when a tenant attempted to light a kerosene heater when it burst into flames, igniting the tenant, and also burning his young son. The fire quickly extended to the 3rd floor, forcing a tenant on the 3rd floor to jump from a window. In all, the fire required a 2nd alarm before being put under control. It should also be noted that this was the second fire of the night.
