Fairfield County Hero Award (Bridgeport, CT) 5/20/09
BRIDGEPORT, CT – On May 20, 2009, Bridgeport Hospital hosted its annual Fairfield County Hero Award Ceremony in the hospital’s Hollander Auditorium. Twenty one members of various emergency services were nominated for the award. According to Bridgeport Hospital’s website, the ceremony was “established in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. The award recognizes the heroic actions of area police officers, firefighters and ambulance personnel and their important partnership with hospital trauma and emergency caregivers in saving lives.”
The award was given to Sgt. Thomas Wrigley, Corporal Roger Miller, Officer Len Rosati, and Officer Frank Sapione of the Stratford Police Department, and Firefighter Tricia Wetmore of the Stratford Fire Department for an incident which occurred on September 28, 2008. The swift actions of these individuals led to the full recovery of a 9-year-old boy who was found unconscious, unresponsive, and barely breathing after he had accidentally hanged himself.
Other nominees haled from Rescue Company 5 of the Bridgeport Fire Department, Stratford Police Department, Shelton Police Department Dispatch, Fairfield Police Department, and the Fairfield Fire Department.
