Howard Ave. Fire (Ansonia, CT) 1/17/09

ANSONIA, CT – Shortly before 3:00pm on January 17, 2009, the Ansonia Fire Department was dispatched to 141 Howard Avenue for a reported structure fire. First units on scene reported heavy fire showing from the first floor B/D corner of a 2 1/2 story wood frame. An aggressive interior attack was commenced but companies were pulled from the building when fire extended to the attic. One firefighter had to bail from a third story window onto a ground ladder and was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor burns. Weather hampered firefighting efforts due to freezing caused by temps only in the teens. All of the residents were out of the home when fire companies arrived, and firefighters rescued the resident’s cat and dog early in the fire.
