Elmwood Ave. Fire (Bridgeport, CT) 7/24/10
BRIDGEPORT, CT - Just before 4:00pm on July 24, 2010, Bridgeport Engine 3, while enroute to an elevator call, diverted to 41 Elmwood Avenue when they saw smoke from the 2 1/2 story house. The assignment was quickly filled out, and all hands went to work. The fire, which appeared to have started on the 2nd floor, quickly spread to the 3rd floor. Lt. Steven Velasquez and Firefighter Michel Baik, both assigned to Ladder 11, paid the ultimate price at this fire. Maydays were called, and the two firemen were removed from the building and transported to area hospitals. Unfortunately, they could not be revived. Steve and Michel will be deeply missed.
