Main St. Fire (Bridgeport, CT) 1/6/10
BRIDGEPORT, CT – At approximately 2:00am on January 6, 2010, the Bridgeport Fire Department was dispatched to 4001 Main Street for an apartment fire. Engine 12 was first on scene reporting heavy fire and smoke showing from the 2nd floor of a 2 story masonry building. An aggressive interior attack was commenced while rescue operations over ground ladders took three people down from a second floor apartment window. The mixed-use building housed Yale Surgical, Kaylore Shoes, and Kenny Z’s Hair, Tanning, and Nail Salon on the first floor with four apartments on the second floor. The fire appeared to have been confined to one apartment on the second floor, but caused smoke and water damage to several others. The American Red Cross assisted in finding several people temporary shelter.
A dog and cat were also rescued from the blaze, while two other cats unfortunately perished.
