Remington Arms Factory Fire (Bridgeport, CT) 2/14/10
BRIDGEPORT, CT – At approximately 5:45pm on February 14, 2010, the Bridgeport Fire Department was dispatched to the vacant Remington Arms Factory for a building fire. Fire department members reporting being able to see smoke and flames from headquarters. First in units reported the building at 889 Barnum Avenue was heavily involved and already had fire through the roof. The fire was located in Building 723, a 35,000 square foot structure, and quickly spread throughout the interior and to another nearby building. The fire took approximately 2 hours to put under control with 5 engines, 3 trucks, 1 rescue, 1 battalion, and 1 deputy.
The fire department is no stranger to this cluster of buildings known as Remington Arms due to the fact it battles several fires a year in this complex. In 2009, Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures Series featured an episode on the Remington Arms Factory and its haunted history.
